The Golgi Apparatus isn't a stand up kind of organelle
Yes, it’s true. The Golgi isn't always there for you. The Golgi body breaks up and disappears when mitosis begins, but comes back when the process is almost over at the stage of Telophase.
And, this is not the only time the Golgi body has let you down. The Golgi Apparatus causes these diseases/disorders:
The Golgi body makes big promises, but this organelle only takes the cell so far. If we cannot expect it to stay for a simple process, such as mitosis, how do we expect this organelle to lead us to peace and harmony?
And, this is not the only time the Golgi body has let you down. The Golgi Apparatus causes these diseases/disorders:
- Alzheimer’s Disease- The brain cells of those with this disease are deteriorating due to many factors, including the Golgi falling apart. Its vital role of protein trafficking is impaired, the size is deformed and characterized as “small round, disconnected, and dispersed elements”. Studies suggest that the Golgi body of neurons without NFTs is a cause of the disease.
- Achondrogenesis- a group of disorders related to the incomplete ossification of bones in the skill, spine and pelvis. Many patients die at birth or soon after birth due to respiratory failure. Type 1A is caused by mutations in TRIPP11, and the Golgi microtubule protein (GMAP210) are the home of the mutation that causes this disorder.
